As French people prepare for their summer holidays, Médoc Atlantique is establishing itself as a top destination for lovers of nature, swimming and wide open spaces.
Nestled between the ocean and lakes, this destination in north-western Gironde offers 124 kilometres of unspoilt, wild beaches. Its rare environmental quality has been confirmed this year by a national award: Lacanau South Beach – also known as Les Écureuils beach – has just been named the best beach in France for 2025 according to the ranking by the association Eau & Rivières de Bretagne, a member of the France Nature Environnement network.
This label, based on data collected by the European Environment Agency over the last four years, recognises both the excellent water quality and the exemplary management of the site.
